Harambee Stars Trimmed: Joseph Okumu and Austine Odhiambo Omitted as Benni McCarthy Announces Final Squad

Benni McCarthy has surprised with some unexpected choices in the final team lineup set to play against Gabon in the World Cup qualifiers.

Players based locally have been hit the hardest, with just five making the final selection out of the initial pool of 50 athletes.

Notably, the youthful U20 center-back Manzur Okwaro has secured his spot in the concluding roster. Meanwhile, Ismael Gonzalez makes a comeback to the national side following an extensive hiatus. Furthermore, Eric Johana Omondi, Daniel Anyembe, and Richard Odada are anticipated to link up with their teammates in Abidjan.

Travelling squad

The goalkeeper position will be covered by Ian Otieno, Brian Bwire, and Faruk Shikhalo, offering a blend of expertise and consistency in front of the nets.

Goalkeepers — Ian Otieno, Brian Bwire, Faruk Shikhalo.

Defenders – Jonestone Omurwa, Brian Mandela, Daniel Anyembe, Amos Nondi, Erick Ouma, Manzur Okwaro, Ronny Onyango.

Midfielders include Anthony Akumu, Richard Odada, Ismael Gonzalez, Timothy Ouma, Eric Johana, Duke Abuya, Mohammed Bajaber, and Ben Stanley Omondi.

Forward players include Masud Juma, Jonah Ayunga, Elvis Rupia, John Avire, and Michael Olunga.
