Agents Outmaneuvered at International Artuz Congress
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union (Artuz) allegedly prevented state security personnel from obstructing their congress, which was conducted in Jotsholo, within the Lupane district of Matabeleland North province.
President Artuz of Obert Masaraure informed Southern Eye that the congress was saved through the intervention of union lawyer Douglas Coltart, who sought an injunction following his consultation with the police.
He mentioned that the state representatives were adamant about participating in the congress, with seven officials present at the Artuz conference hosted at St Martin Mission.
"Despite obstacles, we trust that State representatives conveyed our direct requests to President Emmerson Mnangagwa without alteration," stated Masaraure.
In the meantime, Masaraure stated that rural educators pledged to go on strike and set up pickets at each school across the nation on the first day of operations, insisting on receiving a just salary.
He mentioned that the organization chose the location in Matabeleland North, one of the provinces experiencing severe neglect.
Masaraure stated that the conference decided to combat for the decentralization of authority to ensure that every area progresses together.
The alliance pledged to combat the decline of Harare's dominance, which has merely led to widespread poverty among the masses and wealth accumulation for those with political ties.
He stated that the congress pledged to organize protests at each school in Zimbabwe on the first day of classes, calling for a just salary for educators.
Masaraure stated that the delegates at the congress expressed concern over the extensive plundering of public funds by individuals involved in fraudulent tenders.
He stated that the Zanu PF 2030 agenda was turned down, and the Private Voluntary Organisations Act met with disapproval from the delegates. He further noted that the organization is prepared to safeguard democracy in Zimbabwe.
Masaraure stated that the newly appointed leaders were entrusted with the responsibility to expand the union and spearhead the struggle against oppression and exploitation.
The coordinator for Artuz in Northern Matabeleland, Never Nyahunzvi, stated that protests represent the most effective path for the teachers to gain recognition.
"As long as the demonstrations proceed according to the procedures outlined by the law, I endorse lawful protests regarding inadequate wages," he stated.
