Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber Unveil New Anthems

Sir Tim Rice, the Oscar-winning lyricist, has stated that he hasn't dismissed the possibility of collaborating once more with his previous musical associate Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber to produce a completely new musical. However, he emphasized that such a project would only happen if the concept truly excited him.

The duo, known for crafting hit musicals like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita, has now composed music for a comedic production titled Sherlock Holmes and the 12 Days of Christmas.

It debuts at The Birmingham Rep Theatre in November.

Sir Tim informed South East: "We've composed a handful of songs together, and it has been tremendous fun."

The lyricist, who attended Lancing College in West Sussex, stated: "It's a comedic story centered around a serial killer who targets individuals connected to the song 'The Twelve Days of Christmas.'"

It’s mostly a comedy — one chuckle every minute!

When asked about the collaboration with his previous writing partner, he commented:

From time to time, we've created some unusual tracks for various artists.

We performed an additional song for Madonna in Evita, so we kept in sporadic contact over time; however, there wasn’t any significant musical concept that resonated with us both.

I believe the chemistry has always been present.

Sir Tim Rice and Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber were once one of theater's most fruitful collaborative duos, yet they parted ways in the 1980s to explore individual endeavors.

Lloyd-Webber proceeded to compose musicals such as Cats, Starlight Express, and The Phantom of the Opera.

In the meantime, Rice collaborated with ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus to develop the musical Chess.

He proceeded to collaborate with Disney, composing tunes for "Aladdin" as well as "The Lion King" and several more productions.

He earned Academy Awards for Best Original Song for "A Whole New World" from Aladdin, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from The Lion King, and "You Must Love Me" from Evita.

Sir Tim has collaborated with several individuals throughout his career, such as Elton John, Rick Wakeman, and Burt Bacharach.

He mentioned that one of his greatest regrets was not collaborating more with the late Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury.

He stated, "I performed a few songs with Freddie."

It's tragic that he passed away. I believe we had the potential to create something truly remarkable together.

Sir Tim Rice is embarking on a tour across the UK starting in April for a performance called "My Life In Musicals – I Know Him So Well."

He also visits Guildford, Worthing, and Eastbourne among other locations.
