Recently, former Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama has signed with the Scottish team Dunfermline Athletic, and here’s why he chose this path.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfield player signed with the Scottish team several months following his departure from MLS side CF Montreal.

The 33-year-old midfield player spoke about his transfer and revealed the reasons behind choosing to sign with the team.

"I talked with the manager, and obviously Neil Lennon has had a significant impact on my career. He invited me to assist him, and I agreed, saying 'why not?' since he has been such an important figure for me," he stated through Dafc.co.uk.

The ex-Southampton player mentioned that the team's owner convinced him to sign with them.

Once he explained to me what he desired and his intentions for the club, it became an easy decision. So, I agreed to join and take on the role.

I have visited this place earlier and I consistently mention how friendly and hospitable the Scottish people are. It remains one of my favorite countries to reside in.

In his two-year tenure with Lennon at Celtic, Wanyama played 91 matches, netting 13 goals and contributing nine assists, according to Transfermarkt. Additionally, he secured two Scottish league championships.

The Kenyan likewise made headlines by scoring against Barcelona in the Champions League back in 2012.

Lennon was named manager for Dunfermline on March 21 and will oversee his inaugural game on Saturday against Ayr.

Victor Wanyama's career

Wanyama is still the sole Kenyan player to have competed in the Premier League. Although he represented Tottenham and Southampton, his career in England was curtailed due to injuries.

Following his departure from Kenya, Wanyama played for teams in Sweden and Belgium prior to signing with Celtic in 2011. In 2013, he moved to Southampton and then linked up again with his previous manager Mauricio Pochettino in 2016.

He was an essential member of the Tottenham Hotspur team during their initial phase and even assisted them in reaching the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. Afterward, he spent almost five years playing in Major League Soccer before departing the previous year.

"I felt disappointed because after returning from an injury, I wasn't given sufficient opportunities to play and relish my soccer," he explained to The Athletic regarding his departure from Tottenham.

He also represented Kenya on 64 occasions and led the team as captain during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It’s probable he will make his first appearance for the Scottish team this weekend. The team currently sits at second-bottom in the Scottish Championship standings.
