Football Legend Dies: Ex-J-League Star Domingues Passes Away at 41
Leandro Domingues, the Brazilian playmaker who assisted Kashiwa Reysol in achieving the distinction of being the inaugural J-League champions during their first-ever season in the top division back in 2011, passed away on Tuesday. This information came from one of his previous teams, Brazil’s EC Vitoria. He was 41 years old.
According to regional media reports, he had been fighting testicular cancer since 2022.
In 2010, the striker signed with the second-division team Kashiwa and played a crucial role in helping the club advance to the J1 league.
In 2011, Domingues was awarded as the J-Leauge Player of the Year for spearheading his team’s offense with 15 goals along with an exceptional passing performance.
Domingues also represented Nagoya Grampus and Yokohama FC in Japan, netting 29 times in 97 games in the J1 League.
