Mole Antonelliana: Turin's Majestic Landmark
Among Turin's most recognizable structures, this majestic edifice houses the National Museum of Cinema.
Boasting a domed roof and steeple reaching 550 feet skyward, the Mole Antonelliana stands as the awe-inspiring emblem of Turin. Turin When construction began in the 1860s, the structure was initially planned as a synagogue. However, due to financial difficulties, the city seized control of the project and repurposed it for use as the Museum of the Risorgimento. In the 1950s, the edifice underwent comprehensive renovations and now serves as a hub dedicated to the cinema world—a sort of modern-day sanctuary for filmmaking.
Launched in 2000, the National Museum of Cinema chronicles the story of cinema, ranging from classic Westerns to avant-garde masterpieces via film showings, exhibits, and a vast array of cinematic artifacts. Spanning across 12,000 optical devices, 4,700 sound recordings, numerous photographs and posters along with outfits and set pieces, the museum’s enduring display offers an exhilarating auditory-visual adventure akin to any major Hollywood production. Conclude your tour on a splendid note by ascending to the rooftop panorama atop the Mole Antonelliana. Up here, the stunning vistas over Turin could easily be scenes right off the big screen!
