Pentagon Leak: EU Faces Solo Defense Against Russian Threat

According to a leaked Pentagon document, the U.S. should refrain from intervening to assist Europe if Russia launches an assault.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is said to have remarked that Europe should not expect American military support if Russia decides to invade.

The secret document likewise highlights the main focus of the U.S. military as counteracting China, making sure that their defensive strengths stay aimed at discouraging actions from Beijing instead of spreading resources to safeguarding European partners.

British MP Mike Martin , a part of the UK Defence Committee In response to the leak, they urged Europe to assume complete accountability for its own defense instead of depending on choices made by the United States.

" The leaked document clearly states what we have understood over the past six weeks: the United States has no interest in defending the European continent. Now, the UK must quickly collaborate with our European partners to ensure joint security in Europe independent of the USA. ," Martin said.

The document highlights Washington's strategic emphasis on China, emphasizing that safeguarding Taiwan and ensuring U.S. homeland security are prioritized over addressing European security issues.

" China stands as the Department’s only major rival, with preventing an abrupt takeover of Taiwan by China—a move aimed at undermining the United States—being the department's key strategic challenge. At the same time, safeguarding the US homeland remains crucial. ," Hegseth wrote in the memo.
