IBEDC Consumers Warn of Exodus to Other DISCOs

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Customers have warned that they might switch to alternative energy providers if IBEDC fails to enhance its service quality.

Customers reported buying transformers individually, kits intended for IBEDC staff, random billing practices, mistreatment by personnel, insufficient availability of prepaid meters, and neglect of cap regulations, amongst other concerns.

During an interview with journalists at the inauguration of a three-day FCCPC/Electricity Consumer Forum held in Ota, organized jointly by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission along with the Sango/Ota Community Development Committee (SACDC) in Ado Ota, Ogun State, attendees expressed frustration over the indifferent approach of IBEDC employees toward their clientele.

Speaking to journalists, Prince Olatunji Onaolapo, who heads the Zonal Community Development Committee in Ado Odo Ota, mentioned that the community has purchased as many as 200 transformers. He explained this was necessary because whenever a new transformer is required or an old one needs replacing, IBEDC tends to abandon the local areas without taking appropriate action.

In the Itele axis, various communities have acquired over 80 transformers, with those in Ado Ota being part of this initiative. Altogether, we've bought as many as 200 transformers since this region continues to grow.

He mentioned that previously, community members had to pay anywhere from N4 million to N5 million for each transformer, but nowadays the cost has significantly increased.
